It was a bit unsatisfying. This is a 2003 anime handled by J.C. Staff. It adapts a video game called Gunparade March. I know nothing about the game, but I don't think you need to know anything about it to watch this. Just know that this is NOT a mecha anime. Its got mechs in it, but the story is not about the mechs, it's about the characters and their relationships with one another. That's not the unsatisfying part though. Before that, let me explain the premise: World War 2 gets interrupted by an alien invasion. Ever since then, mankind has been fighting these aliens to survive. The story takes place 50 or so years into this war. Technology has advanced to combat these aliens. Mankind developed mechs for battle and have methods to defend positions from aliens, but even so, many lose their lives in battle. In an attempt to keep the military force strong, the japanese government now drafts highschool students to be trained as mech pilots to be deployed in battle. It's a rough life for these kids, but it's not all doom and gloom. Their platoon leaders also act as school teachers for them. They still live a highschool life just with military training on the side. However, at any point they need to be ready to be called into battle. The anime focuses a lot more time on the daily lives of the students in a particular platoon instead of their battles and training. Since their military duties require good coordination, many of their classes involve collaborative excersices. Du...
