The following programs are available to Maine citizens looking for used and recycled AT:
Spurwink ALLTECH
Spurwink ALLTECH accepts donations of “gently used” assistive technology and durable medical equipment, and sanitizes and restores the equipment to good working condition. This equipment is then made available for purchase, and often provides consumers with a savings of 50-80% over the cost of new equipment.

Uncle Henry’s Classified Ad
Uncle Henry’s is an institution in Maine having published a weekly classified ad publication for over 30 years. They do not list Assistive Technology equipment as such, but you can search for specific items or look in the “Senior Selections” area for items like wheelchairs and other devices used around the house. Regional Hearing Aid Bank – ReHAB
The Regional Hearing Aid Bank – ReHAB is designed to provide one hearing aid to those members of our community who are unable to afford them. It utilizes donated behind-the-ear hearing aids that can be refurbished and reprogrammed for use by another person. The ReHAB program is designed particularly for members of the community who are unable to be served by the Veterans’ Administration, Vocational Rehabilitation program, insurances or other third-party providers and whose annual income is less than 200 percent of the federal poverty level.
There is an application process for these services. Applications are available by calling the PCHC/Warren Center at 404-8080 or may be picked up at the PCHC/Warren Center office at 992 Union Street, Bangor.
Donations of hearing aids to benefit the ReHAB program are always accepted. Behind-the-ear hearing aids of all makes and models are those used for refurbishment and placement. In-the-ear hearing aids are recycled, and the proceeds are then used to help with the costs of refurbishing the behind the ear hearing aids. Hearing aids may be dropped off or mailed to the PCHC/Warren Center office at 992 Union Street, Bangor, Maine 04401.
Give IT Get IT
Give IT Get IT is a nonprofit organization that helps eligible individuals and nonprofit organizations get access to fast, high-quality computers – and outstanding user support – at the lowest cost possible.The Waterville-based nonprofit formed last year out of a merger betweenPCs for MaineandeWaste Alternatives and has increasing its capacity to recycle retired technology devices from Maine businesses, refurbish them, and distribute them to “technologically isolated” Mainers. Maine Digital Inclusion Initiative
The National Digital Equity Center’s “Maine Digital Inclusion Initiative” program promotes and advocates for Digital Inclusion. Included is the expansion of digital literacy services to traditionally underserved populations to provide job training/employment-related education as well as technology training to older adults. The program has engaged and trained digital literacy instructors to provide computer skills/digital literacy instruction to adult learners throughout Maine.

PCs for People
PCs for People provides services to both individuals and businesses looking to acquire or dispose of computers and information technology. Any family or individual receiving government benefits or living below 200% of the federal poverty line is eligible for services. In addition to the services offered directly to families, PCs for People offer free recycling and data sanitization services to corporations. Read more about PCs for People

Maine State Surplus Property Division
The Surplus Property Division provides various mechanisms for the disposition of state surplus materials and equipment that are no longer needed by the state department that purchased them. This includes monthly sales, property offered for bid, public sales and public auctions. In addition, federal surplus property is obtained for donation to qualifying state, public or non-profit organizations throughout Maine.Visit the Maine State Surplus website.

Partners for World Health
Partners for World Health has partnered with over 100 facilities in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts to establish medical recycling programs. We provide recycle bins for each floor of a facility and educate the nurses and housekeepers on their use. In addition, facility managers gather large durable medical equipment such as beds, exam tables, and wheelchairs. Every week, PWH volunteers pick up the supplies and equipment and take it to our distribution center where it is sorted and processed for shipment to countries in Africa and Southeast Asia. We have partnered with representatives from hospitals in over 20 countries who assure us that the supplies and equipment reach hospitals and clinics in need.
